Alcatel and Lucent in Merger Talks
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, (NAMC)- It looks like Lucent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: LU) and the French telecom equipment maker Alcatel SA (NYSE: ALA) are in merger talks. This is second time that they have come to the table in five years in regards to a merger and this may be the charm. This would be an approximate $34 billion merger and this merger between these two companies is the latest of a trend in the industry to consolidate and pool strengths. This massive combination would create a company that would surpass Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO). The spark that is forcing consolidation in the industry is the advancement of technology and the triple threat that has come along with it, that being Voice, High Speed Internet and Television.
