Alanco Adds the One Two Punch with Two New Contracts but is it Enough
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, (NAMC) – Recently the Scottsdale Arizona based Alanco Technologies (NASDAQ: ALAN) signed definitive agreements that would put them in new facilities in both Virginia and Missouri. Their inmate tracking system named “ TSI PRISM” has begun to garner the attention of Capital Hill as they are positioning themselves to install their system at the Marion Correctional Treatment Center, a 230-bed psychiatric facility based in Virginia, and two halfway house types of facilities in the Farmington and St. Joseph, Missouri area.
The company has yet to lock down a major correctional facility for their system to date.
This raises the question as to whether the correction departments see the value in their technology or not. With the potential of a growing number of inmates trying to escape these correctional facilities, various precautions are being set in place, such as a greater number of officers on duty, security cameras etc.
Currently correctional facilities implement a tracking bracelet on prisoners that receive house arrest, although primitive in light of the current technology available, it is effective as it serves its purpose. But that is a far cry from the technology that Alanco offers.
As we have reported in the past, as with any technology company, whether it is Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and their iPod or Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM) and their Blackberry, there will always be other companies looking to take a piece of the pie. Alanco is no different, even though the company has yet to make a mark on the potential billion dollar worldwide market that they are in, there will possibly be other technology companies, that may be waiting in the wings, that will come to market with similar systems.
We’ve yet to see any form of true forward motion of the company as it relates to securing a major correctional facility contract here in the United States or garnering any major media attention for their product. So we will limit our coverage of Alanco Technologies and revisit the company in the coming months.
