Here are the explanations as to why these stocks are on the Brokerage Buy List:

EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC) is considered a large cap stock to own for the long term with three of the leading brokerages. Earlier this month, the company posted first quarter consolidated revenue of $2.55 billion, which increased 14% year-over-year from $2.24 billion. The company said its focus on information lifecycle management and its expanding portfolio of best-in-class products and services helped to bring about the 11th consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth. Furthermore, earnings per share, excluding items, came in at 16 cents, topping the year-ago result. With plans to buy another $2.5 billion worth of stock through the rest of this year, EMC will deploy $3 billion toward share reduction in 2006, which is three times that of 2005.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) said positive momentum across the firm led to solid first quarter earnings. Earnings per share topped both the year-ago result and the consensus. Revenue rose to $15.2 billion. Highlights during the quarter included lower credit losses at Card Services; record revenues at Investment Bank; growth in accounts, deposits and loans at Retail Financial Services; and solid revenue growth at Asset & Wealth Management, Treasury & Securities Services and Commercial Banking. Three of the top brokerage firms consider JPMorgan Chase & Co. a large cap stock to own for the long term.

3M (NYSE:MMM) enjoyed broad-based growth from its portfolio and continued strong leverage to the bottom line, helping the company get off to a strong start in 2006. Earnings per share reached $1.17 in the first quarter on worldwide sales of $5.6 billion. The earnings result improved on a year-over-year basis and eclipsed the consensus by almost 2%, while sales advanced 8.3%. For 2006, 3M increased its earnings guidance and now expects between $4.55 and $4.65, compared to the previous outlook of $4.45 to $4.60. The company also raised its revenue growth guidance for the year. 3M is a stock to own for the long term, according to three leading brokerages.

Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) posted first quarter earnings per share of $1.15 on operating revenue of $3.7 billion. The earnings result surged from the year-earlier performance and beat the consensus by approximately 6.5%. Revenue improved from $3.2 billion. Union Pacific, which is a large cap for the long term with three leading brokerage firms, continues to see solid demand, which should support future volume and yield growth. The company said its challenge will be to continue handling that growth more efficiently.
