SUNNYVALE, CA, (NAMC) - “Shake, Rattle and Roll” is this year’s theme for the Pacific Autism Center for Education’s (PACE) fifth annual fundraising gala and auction. This year’s event will be held on Saturday night November 11 from 6 pm to midnight at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto. Hosted by NBC11 Sports Anchor Raj Mathai and featuring auctioneer extraordinaire, David Reynolds, the evening will include a Live and Silent Auction, fine wines, sit-down dinner and dancing to the swinging sounds of “Mike Hadley and the Groove.”
All proceeds from the event will be used to fund programs at PACE, a non-profit organization in Sunnyvale that provides education, treatment and housing for autistic individuals from early childhood through adulthood.
“With a diagnosis rate of 1 in 166 children born today with autism, the need for our services has increased tremendously,” says Kati Miller, PACE 2006 Auction Chairperson. “This year we hope to raise over $150,000 in support of PACE programs and services.”
Two-time Emmy award winner Raj Mathai returns to host this year’s program for a third year in a row. No stranger to the Bay Area, Raj grew up on the Peninsula and graduated from Los Altos High School. In his current role as sports director for NBC11 he anchors the nightly sportscasts and hosts the top-rated Sports Sunday program. Raj will be joined by David Reynolds, one of the most sought after charity auctioneers in the country. Reynolds has taken classes in improvisation, clowning, movement and mime in addition to vocal training and comedy classes. “I don’t like to call myself an auctioneer,” says Reynolds. “I’m more of an entertainer.”
One of the more unique Live Auction items being offered this year is: “A Day in the Life of the Harvest,” for six people to join Gary Burk of Costa de Oro Winery in the life of a winemaker for one day. This lot includes a catered luncheon at the winery and a multi-course gourmet dinner at the widely acclaimed Chef Rick’s in Santa Maria. Other exciting Live Auction items include: American Idol tickets for two, a week-long stay in a secluded Montana vacation home, and At&T luxury box of 12 people.
Founded in 1989, Pacific Autism Center for Education’s mission is to provide high quality programs for individuals with autism and its related developmental disabilities, so they may experience the satisfaction and fulfillment that accompany learning, self-expression, self-care, productive work, and interpersonal and community experiences. PACE programs include: Early Intervention for toddlers and preschoolers, PACE School for students ages 6-22, Adult Day services and a Residential Program.
PACE School was recently granted coveted accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), one of six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges and universities. WASC accreditation validates the integrity of a school’s program and certifies to the public that a school is a trustworthy institute of learning. Upon granting certification to PACE the WASC committee concluded with the statement “the commitment, professional preparation and care demonstrated by PACE staff was most impressive.”
Corporate Sponsors for this year’s event include: BD Biosciences, Gilfix and La Poll Associates, Santa Clara Valley National Bank, IFS, The Zenith, Comerica Bank, UPS, W.L.Butler Construction, Ikon and JP Graphics. Media sponsors include: NBC11, Telemundo48, and Gentry Magazine.
