NEW YORK, NY (NAMC) - Over the past several years social networking has been growing by leaps and bounds thanks to MySpace.com and YouTube, and more recently GoFish Corporation. More and more teens and tweens are finding online social networking as a mainstay in their daily lives thanks to T-Mobile's Sidekick and other rmobile devices at their disposal. They can communicate with their select group of friends or network on an international scale.
Now there is a new kid on the block which is dedicated to Kids, the Company is Wi-Fi TV Inc, and they are hoping to get a slice of the social networking pie by implementing something that some may consider unique.
Wi-Fi TV has developed a global interactive internet television network that is dedicated to children, yes you heard that correctly this is just for children, but the company looks to make a splash with help from their parents. According to Wi-Fi TV the appeal of Wi-FiKids.com to parents is that it allows the showing of homemade videos but at the same time Wi-Fi TV does not provide children's last names or any contact information for privacy and security.
Now their motivation is not selfless, the company hopes that their idea will catch on so that they may expand their online network and generate revenue from advertising and selling substations on their network. The price range to take part in a Wi-Fi TV station is bewtween $25,000- $100,000, and I guess that they give some type of support and I would imagine host the station on their network.
Will Wi-Fi TV make a splash or a bellyflop in the social networking arena still remains to be seen, but keep in mind that when GoFish Corp shot out of the box to capitalize on YouTube's success some thought that the company had a chance to position themselves as a potential takeover candidate or as a Nasdaq traded entity, the stock went from trading in the dollars to trading in the cents after issuing convertible debt to raise capital. They had an edge and for some odd reason lost their momentum and that window of opportunity because more players are jumping in the social networking game.
Wi-Fi TV is focused on only one sector of the social networking arena which may be to their advantage, such as Nickelodeon has done with their programming. Only time will tell if their online childrens TV network will grow in popularity as they outlined so we will have to follow up on this company at some point down the road.
